THE SCHOOL
The school is a licensed, established school, fully recognised by the Maltese Education Department. It is staffed by a team of dedicated, highly qualified, experienced teachers who are all native speakers of English, and it caters for students at all levels and all age-groups. Classes are small enough for students to be given the personal attention necessary to improve their knowledge of the English Language quickly. English is the ONLY language spoken in the classroom.
Advanced teaching methods and modern aids are used. With the help of these, teachers ensure that all students can make solid and rapid progress. The Centre is open all year round except on public holidays. All courses begin on Mondays when students are given a preliminary assessment test and a private interview with the Director of Studies, in order to assess their knowledge of English. They are then assigned to an appropriate class. At the end of the course, all students receive a certificate of attendance.
COURSES
General English
This is a group course which is designed to help students communicate effectively in English in a variety of everyday situations. The timetable is organised so that the students receive a balance of different types of lessons which include conversation activities such as debates, discussions and role-play, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation exercises.
(January to June, September to December: Maximum 5 students per class, July and August: Maximum 10 students per class)
Standard Course: 20 group lessons per week.
Intensive Course: 20 group lessons + 10 One-to-One lessons per week.
Business English
In the world of business today, a good knowledge of English is essential for a successful career. This course aims to develop the ability of business managers, secretaries or students to communicate effectively in English in the following situations; using the telephone, reading and analysing business texts, chairing / participating in meetings, making travel arrangements and business correspondence / reports / memos. (Maximum 5 students per class).
Standard Course: 20 group lessons per week. Intensive Course: 20 group lessons + 10
One-to-One lessons per week.
One-to-One
These courses are tailor-made to meet the precise linguistic requirements of each individual student. Before the students arrive in Malta, as well as on their first day at the Centre, we carry out a detailed needs analysis in order to prepare an individual course around the student's needs. Consequently this type of course provides the quickest and most effective English language training possible.
Standard Course: 20 One-to-One lessons per week.
Intensive Course: 30 One-to-One lessons per week.
Specialised One-to-One
These tailor-made courses are specifically designed to meet the professional requirements of any student. We welcome enquiries from companies or individuals who require courses in English for any purpose. Courses include English for Law, Banking, Medicine, Computers, Insurance, Engineering, the Hotel Industry, the Airline Industry etc.
Standard Course: 20 One-to-One lessons per week.
Intensive Course: 30 One-to-One lessons per week.
UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE Examination Preparation Courses
The Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) examinations are known and recognised by universities, employers and national education authorities throughout the world. Every year more than one million people take Cambridge ESOL in order to improve their employment prospects, seek further education, prepare themselves to travel or live abroad, or because they want an internationally recognised certificate showing the level they have attained in the English language. The Alpha School of English offers four Cambridge ESOL examination preparation courses:
PET - Preliminary English Test (Pre-Intermediate Level)
FCE - First Certificate in English (Intermediate Level)
CAE - Certificate in Advanced English (Upper-Intermediate - Advanced Level)
CPE - Certificate of Proficiency in English (Advanced Level)
- TOEFL Preparation Course
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings. Most universities and colleges in the United States and Canada require high scores on the TOEFL test for admission of international students. 
- IELTS Preparation Course
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a comprehensive test of English language ability. It consists of reading, writing, speaking and listening parts in either academic or general training contexts. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand academic institutions. It is also widely used internationally for a variety of purposes such as immigration and work placements.
Our examination courses are all intensive courses of 8 - 12 weeks duration to prepare students for the international examinations mentioned above. Please contact the school for current examination fees and dates. (Maximum 5 students per class. Standard Course: 20 group lessons per week)
English + Scuba
The Maltese islands are considered a dream destination for scuba diving. The waters here are among the clearest in the world and visibility is excellent down to around 30 metres. The local interesting marine life, coupled with startling seascapes that include underwater caves, reefs, cliffs and wrecks make the Maltese archipelago a favourite with both novice and experienced divers.
Students who select our popular English + Scuba Diving Programme follow a General English course in the mornings and a PADI Certificate course in the afternoons. The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the world's largest training agency and its certificates are internationally recognized. The school works closely with one of Malta's leading dive schools which is conveniently situated nearby. Students may choose a PADI Open Water Diver Course which consists of classroom sessions, shallow water dives and then real sea dives, or a PADI Advanced Open Water course which consists of 5 open water sea dives. The open water dives take place all around the islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. In order to take a diving course, all students need a current Medical Certificate of Fitness to dive, issued and signed by a doctor (students may take the medical test in Malta). (Minimum Age: 14) Course: 20 Group English Lessons per week + selected Diving Course.
Junior Vacation English
These courses are designed for students aged between 8-12 and 13-19 who would like to combine a holiday in the Maltese sunshine with an English language course. The morning lessons are followed by afternoon activities, and included in the cost of the programme are three excursions per week with our friendly young group-leaders.
Furthermore, on a daily basis the Centre also organises several other afternoon and evening activities, ranging from boat-trips and sightseeing tours to beach parties, Bar-B- Qs, horse-riding lessons, and evening outings to cinemas and discotheques. We strongly recommend Host Family accommodation for our younger students, although students over the age of 17 may also select School Residence accommodation. 
The Vacation English programme is only available during the Easter season and June- September inclusive. (Maximum 10 students per class).

Adventure and Sports
Extreme Adventure Course
New in 2007, this course gives students the rare opportunity to get a taste of a range of Extreme Sports with the help of professional guides. Our school transport will take them all over the island of Malta in the pursuit of these adrenalin-pumping activities. Following, please find our sample student schedule.
Multi Sports
Our Multi Sports Programme is designed to give students the chance to try a range of sports. Following English lessons in the morning students will be taken by our school transport to the location of their activity. Below please find our sample student schedule.

FREE TIME
As regards water-sports and beach activities, our school is in a unique position, since it is located in the north of Malta, close to the island's sandy beaches. Scuba-diving, windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing and paragliding are all very popular activities, and during the summer season, we operate a shuttle bus service every day after school to the various nearby sandy beaches. However almost any other sport can also be enjoyed on the island and the Centre is able to make arrangements for such sports such as horse-riding, tennis, squash, golf...
Because the Maltese islands are steeped in history, there are several places of interest which are a must for all visitors. The Centre organises many activities and excursions, ranging from tours to the 'silent city' of Mdina and the capital city of Valletta, to boat trips to our sister islands of Gozo and Comino, as well as evening outings to nightclubs and discos.
ACCOMODATION
We take great care in the selection of suitable accommodation, and can offer a wide choice, including the School Residence, hotels of different standards and host families. For those students who would like to live in an international community, talking English with people from different countries, we recommend our School Residence. For those students who would like to experience life in a Maltese home, we recommend one of our carefully chosen English-speaking host families. Friendly conversation in a relaxed family atmosphere will enhance language acquisition. Accommodation with a host family includes breakfast and a full dinner. ALL the homes are inspected THREE times a year by our Welfare Officer.
Finally, accommodation can also be provided in a number of nearby hotels, apart-hotels and guest houses, which range from five star to three star category.
