THE SCHOOL
Our English language school in Kelowna is Canadian owned and operated and is the towns oldest (est. 2002) and most trusted English as a Second Language school. It is not only a well respected school it is also a vibrant, friendly and exciting place to learn English. The Okanagan Valley is blessed with one of Canada's most temperate climates and receives over 310 days of sunshine per year. The area is a popular destination for Canadian and International visitors, alike. With a population of over 100,000, Kelowna is the largest city in the Okanagan Valley and one of the fastest growing in Canada. Kelowna is surrounded by picturesque Okanagan Lake.
COURSES
Practical English as a second language (ESL) The main emphases of our programs are on communication and on functional English for daily life. Practical ESL programs begin weekly for Ages 12 and up. Students can register for 1 to 52 weeks.
Cambridge Exam Preparation Cambridge PET, FCE, CAE and CPE exam preparation programs begin in September, January and March. Students can enroll for 10, 11 or 12 weeks depending on the exam and the session. Cambridge exams are the world's most popular certificates for learners of English. Each year they are taken by over 1.5 million people, in 135 countries. Students can use the certificates to gain entrance to a university or college, improve job prospects and measure progress in English. Most Canadian universities accept Cambridge results for entrance to degree programs. Students can expect 1-2 hours of homework daily.
TOEFL®-iBT Exam Preparation The TOEFL-iBT program begins weekly and students can enroll for 2-12 weeks. It includes a review of exam techniques, strategies and the study of sample exams. If you are planning to enter a university or college or just want to improve your TOEFL score this program will assist you with building the skills you require to achieve your goals.
TOEIC Exam Preparation The TOEIC exam preparation program begins weekly for 2-12 weeks. It includes a review of exam techniques, strategies and the study of sample exams. Teachers provide practice tests with feedback and error correction and diagnosis of weak points in English to help students improve their TOEIC scores.
High School Preparation The High School Preparation program begins weekly for ages 11 to 18. Students enroll in Practical ESL at IGK for 12-50 weeks depending on their level. After completion of the Upper Intermediate level or upon passing the Cambridge FCE certificate students transfer to an academy. It accepts international students in September and January for grades 8 through 12. We provide comprehensive home stay, guardianship and support for unaccompanied students throughout the duration of their high school program.

Homestay with a Teacher 15h The Homestay with a Teacher program features 15 hours per week of individualized, self paced learning in the relaxed and friendly environment of a teacher's home. The daily schedule is mutually agreed upon between the teacher and the student. The lessons are customized to fit each student's special requirements, level and requests. This program can easily be combined with full or part time Practical classes for a very intensive immersion or it can be booked separately. Homestay with a Teacher is an excellent program for Working Holiday Visa students due to the flexibility in the study schedule and the business and job search skills that can be incorporated into the lessons.
Private Tutoring 1-to-1 We can arrange private tutoring for Ages 8 to adult in English. You decide the schedule, duration and intensity of your course and we will design a course especially fitting on your needs.
Action camp program IGKs most popular action camp combines morning lessons with afternoon activities catering to the younger learner. Students are placed in carefully selected homestays and have the option of daily transportation to and from school. This program begins weekly in June, July, August, September, January, February and March for individuals and any Monday year round for groups. Students can register for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. Farm Stay Farm stays offer a unique way to experience rural and Western life in Canada. Students are placed on a ranch, orchard or farm of their choice from one to six weeks. There are many exciting activities to do on the farm or the ranch such as: horseback riding, hiking, fishing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, volleyball and arts and crafts. At the same time, you will learn about growing crops, training animals and most importantly practice your English conversation skills! Students are provided a single room, shared bath and 3 meals per day and have access to laundry, telephone and television service. Internet service may be available usually at an additional charge. Students are required to volunteer 15 hours per week on the farm to offset the cost of their stay.
