Why do a CELTA?
- It is internationally recognised.
- It is an essential qualification for entering the field of TEFL (Teaching English as a
Foreign Language).
- The course is assessed and moderated by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
- Trainers are internationally and nationally qualified and also highly experienced, nationally and internationally.
- GHC has a dedicated CELTA Co-ordination Department to ensure the smooth running
of the course.
What does the course involve? General Information: Full time course run over 4 weeks, hours approximately 9 to 5. Maximum of 12 trainees per class to keep the atmosphere personal and friendly. Breakdown of course content: There are four elements:
- Input sessions.
- Teaching practice:
This is a key part of the course and takes place in smaller groups with volunteer students, who often have refugee status.
- Observations:
Some of Good Hope Studies' existing CELTA teachers are observed by trainees.
- Written assignments:
Based on input and teaching sessions, these are a very practical assimilation tool, which reinforce skills and knowledge development.
How are participants assessed? In addition to the feedback after every teaching practice session, each trainee has tutorials with the tutors throughout the course. Tutors agree on the final grade (Pass A, Pass B or Pass) of each trainee and an external assessor also sees each one's work.
