Our teachers are highly qualified: many of them trained and recruited from our own acclaimed CELTA teacher training division in Melbourne. This course is an ideal way to learn to use English effectively in an everyday environment. We offer this course carefully designed to cover the macro-skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and pronunciation practice. Students find they progress in a fast and enjoyable manner. Lessons are of the highest quality which makes them both interesting and productive.
English For Academic Purposes 20h
English for Academic Purposes is aimed at students who need English for use in higher education or university courses. The focus is on study skills and fluency practice.
Qualification: Certificate of English / IELTS / TOEFL
Cambridge Examination Preparation 20h
Intensive 12 week preparation courses designed to offer you a thorough preparation in the major Cambridge Examinations.
Qualification: University of Cambridge Certificates
English Plus Business 20h
Courses are offered along with a selection of subjects in Computing, Tourism, Hotel Management, Office Management, Business Management or Marketing. This is an ideal opportunity for more advanced students to learn and use English in a variety of occupations. Courses are tailored to suit individual needs and goals.
IELTS Examination Preparation 20h
This is a course, which aims to give you a firm grounding in the skills needed for the IELTS test. There is a high degree of personal academic interaction with your teacher. There is also an option for students to train for IELTS over a longer period.
English for Business 20h
The English for Business course is designed to focus on teaching you the language skills required in the professional working world. There is a great deal of practical emphasis including exposure to business situations.
You will learn how to speak confidently in public situations, how to conduct yourself at meetings in English, how to communicate effectively by telephone, and email. 
High School Preparation 25h
We offer a tradition of excellence in preparing young international students between 12 and 18 years of age towards Australian primary and secondary school studies. Safe, secure and supportive, our school provides unique preparation for overseas students' entry into the school system.

Tourism plays a major part in the Cairns economy. According to Tourism Australia, Cairns is the fourth most popular destination for international tourists in Australia after Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
While the city does not rank amongst Australia's top 10 destinations for domestic tourism, it attracts a number of Australian holiday makers given its distance from major capitals. The city's proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics of Queensland makes it a popular destination. The city contains hundreds of hotels, resorts, motels and backpackers hostels. Activities in the region include golf, white water rafting, snorkelling, diving and hiking.

We have enthusiastic and committed accommodation officers who are there to help you settle into the Australian way of life. You may choose from a variety of accommodation options:
- Homestay
Living with an Australian family means you speak English - all the time. Youll learn to converse in real life situations and youll have Australian friends for years to come. Holmes  has a large network of friendly and reliable homestay families.
All homestays are inspected regularly and approved by our accommodation officers.
- Hostels and Guest Houses
In addition to the Homestay program, there are Student Hostels and Guest Houses which we are happy to recommend. These are either full or part board and are within easy travelling distance from the colleges.
- Units/Apartments
After an initial period of homestay or hostel accommodation, you may prefer to move into apartment style accommodation with other students.
